Michelle on the summit of the Grand Teton.
Mountain Kidd is Michelle Kidd, a dreamer, adventurer and freelance graphic designer and copywriter (see her professional website at www.kiddcreativedesigns.com). She currently calls home a 1920′s log cabin at the base of Teton pass in Wilson, Wyoming (7 miles from Jackson).
Kidd was born in Muskegon, Michigan but developed a serious passion for the mountains on family ski trips to Colorado. The 28-hour train ride from Holland, Michigan to Winter Park, Colorado gave her plenty of time to contemplate the vast differences between the mid-west and the wild west, and where she belonged was clear.
Upon graduation from high school, she yearned to flee but the financial realities of out-of-state tuition were too strong to ignore. It took one and a half years of college at Grand Valley State University before the solution became clear: drop out. And drop out she did. She was hired as a children’s ski instructor at Beaver Creek, a ski resort so high end it brands itself with, “Not Exactly Roughing It”. Biding her time to obtain in-state residency, Kidd passed the summers working on the Shoshone stretch of the Colorado river as a whitewater rafting guide for Lakota River Guides. Finally, the day came when she could complete college as in-state resident at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
After graduating from the CU’s advertising program with a B.S. in Journalism, Kidd longed to be in the mountains but couldn’t see settling down in the glitz and glam of Vail and Beaver Creek. Jackson Hole provided the small town feel with a truly incredible ski mountain. After eating breakfast at a diner by the name of Bubba’s, it was settled. Jackson would be home for a while. And 5 years later, it still is.
